A Mission of Many Delays: Atlantis landing postponed

9/19/06

NASA announced recently that the Space Shuttle Atlantis will NOT be landing tomorrow due to an object found on the bottom of the orbiter and bad weather. A rough image of the object is highlighted above, and the link below it contains a link to a video explaining the delay. NASA says a possible alternate launch time is 6:22 AM EDT on Thursday, September 21st. For more information, visit this link:

Atlantis to Land Tomorrow

9/20/06

NASA officially says now that Atlantis will land tomorrow (Thursday, 21st of September) at 6:21 AM EDT at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The deorbit burn is scheduled for 4:14 AM EDT, and the payload doors will be opening at 2:45 AM EDT. The weather forecast for tomorrow in Florida looks promising, so maybe, this time, Atlantis won't be delayed.

Opportunity Rover Peaks into Victoria Crater

9/26/06

When the Opportunity Mars rover landed on January 4th, 2004, it was expected to last for around three months. Now, Opportunity and its twin Spirit is still alive and well, and the approaching Martian summer can only mean good things for the solar panels on the rovers. Opportunity has also just taken its first peek into a crater that it has been moving towards for quite a long time. Victoria crater holds potential as a site to see geological layers exposed by the impact that formed it. For more information, please to to: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/mer/index.html
